For Sugiyanto and his family, water and sanitation are the luxury things they could have in their life. Sugiyanto lives with his family in a neighbourhood called Penjaringan, one of Jakarta’s largest slums in the north of the city. He lives in a 3x4 m2 house with his wife, daughter, and mother. The house does not belong to him; he rents it for IDR 300,000 per month. There is no access to water in houses of that size.

From 2013 till mid-2016, under the ACCCRN Program, Mercy Corps Indonesia has been working in partnership with Semarang City in implementing the ACTIVE Program (which stands for Actions Changing the Incidence of Vector-Borne Endemic Diseases). The purpose of this activity is to strengthen the health system capacity and the resilience of Semarang City in the face of DF which is being worsened by climate change.

The ACCCRN Network hosted a webinar entitled “Building Heat Stress Resilience in Da Nang, Vietnam” and presented by Lisa Buggy, Climate Change Project Advisor of The Center for Community Health and Development (COHED), on 30 March 2016. About 30 urban climate change and resilience professionals were in attendance to listen and share their experiences of the issue.
