The Zurich Insurance Group has now officially joined the Global Resilience Partnership (GRP). Zurich will commit an additional US$10 million investment to fund solutions that can help to build resilience to flood and water challenges.

It plans to launch in 2016 the Global Resilience Challenge Water Window, a competition that will aim to build resilience to floods. A goal is to identify solutions that can be shared through an open learning platform. The implementing partner of the Global Resilience Challenge Water Window will be KPMG East Africa, who will lead all administrative and operational aspects of the competition.

Zurich is the first private sector partner to the GRP. The GRP will continue to reach out to other private sector partners to join the effort to involve non-traditional actors and draw in new financing towards resilience-building efforts. The Partnership hopes to develop and implement innovative, locally-driven, high-impact and scalable solutions that will allow  hundreds of millions of people in the Horn of Africa, Sahel and South/Southeast Asia to adapt to sudden shocks and chronic stresses.
